SARASOTA, Fla. (July 13, 2026) — On Monday, former Secretary and Board Member-at-Large of the Environmental Caucus of Sarasota County Austin Nichols endorsed Allen Spence, Democratic candidate for Florida's 17th Congressional District, adding to the Spence campaign's growing coalition of community leaders and advocates in Sarasota and across Southwest Florida.
Nichols' endorsement follows support from civics educator and government reform advocate Mr. Beat (Matt Beat), former Seminole County Democratic Party Treasurer Jorge Londono, former Democratic congressional nominees Andrea Doria Kale and Manny Lopez, former Sarasota County Stonewall Democrats and Sarasota-Manatee Young Democrats President Peter Imhoff, the American Small Business League and the Southwest Florida Democratic Disability Caucus.
Nichols praised Spence's commitment to protecting Southwest Florida's environment and holding government accountable.
"As one-time Secretary and Board Member-at-Large of the Environmental Caucus of Sarasota County Democrats, I formally announce my wholehearted endorsement of Allen Spence for Congress in Florida's 17th District," Nichols said.
"Allen Spence will hold the government responsible for keeping our beaches, water, plants and animals clean and safe for our citizens, visitors and generations of Southwest Floridians to come. Let's win this thing!"
Spence thanked Nichols for his endorsement.
"I'm grateful for Austin's endorsement," Spence said. "Protecting Southwest Florida isn't just about preserving our environment. It's about protecting our economy and our quality of life. I'll fight for responsible growth, cleaner water, safer flood-resistant communities and policies that hold major polluters accountable while keeping our beaches, wildlife and natural resources strong for future generations."
