BABCOCK RANCH, Fla. (Oct. 29, 2025) — A new grassroots movement is growing across Charlotte, Lee and Sarasota counties as financial professional and community leader Allen Spence campaigns to represent Florida's 17th District in Congress, challenging incumbent Greg Steube.
"Enough is enough," Spence said. "While Florida families struggle with rising grocery bills and seniors worry about how to afford a doctor, our current representative is voting for tariff taxes that make everything more expensive. That's not just a bad vote. It’s a betrayal of the people he swore to serve."
Spence’s campaign is built on a mission: cutting the cost of living and restoring honesty in Washington. Spence pledges to immediately target the Trump-Steube tariffs, which he calls a direct tax on the paychecks, groceries and necessities of Floridians.
Spence brings more than 20 years of economic expertise to the race, arguing that Southwest Florida needs a financial steward, not a “yes-man.” His campaign is built on the bedrock principle that government should expand opportunity, not stand in the way.
"I see the American Dream getting harder to reach for families right here in our community," Spence said. "My campaign is about rebuilding that promise, where you can provide for your family without worry, retire with dignity and trust that your leaders are actually listening."
Spence has built grassroots momentum from Sarasota to Lehigh Acres, raising nearly $7,000 from 78 local donors as part of an early fundraising push.
“The No Kings protest sent a strong message,” Spence said. “People in Charlotte, Lee and Sarasota counties feel forgotten and are ready for something new. This campaign is powered by the community — not by corporate PACs or political insiders.”
A father, Scouting America leader and longtime Southwest Florida resident, Spence promises a different kind of leadership: accessible, accountable and rooted in service. He has committed to holding regular town halls across the region, a direct challenge to Steube’s record of avoiding public scrutiny.
"I will show up. I will listen. And, I will fight for you," Spence stated. "This isn’t about a political career. It’s about giving the people of this district a voice that cannot be ignored."
